After an extended summer break during which Rivertide Center expanded our yoga offerings, brought in new Wellness Practitioners, and started offering a number of once-a-month special events, we are ready to welcome our aikido kids and their families back on the mat! (See our current schedule of ongoing classes and events below.) Our Kids’ Aikido Family-Style format has been a blast, and we have a few spots left for new families to join! We are now offering this six-week session on Thursdays only, 4:30-5:30pm, beginning September 10.
We will be playing lots of games and practicing Japanese terminology, mindfulness, cooperation, agency and self-regulation. We’ll be working on aikido technique, footwork, and how to fall safely, and we look forward to continuing to expand on our bokken (sword) and Jo (staff) skills.
This family-style class includes ages 5 and up, and parents are welcome on the mat at no additional charge (ages 5 & 6 must have an adult on the mat with them). For families of kids 7 and up, you are welcome to join on the mat, or just watch if that is a better fit for you, but please plan to stay in the building for the class so the kids can touch base with you if they need to step off the mat. We have tea, wifi, lots of seating options and a mini-library available.
As a parent/guardian, if you think you might be interested in hopping on the mat with the kids once you see how much fun we are having, make sure to fill out the adults’ intake/release form below. 😉
