We are so pleased to have had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with Amy Rose, the newest practitioner in our Wellness Residency program, so that you can get a sneak peek of how she is helping to nourish our community. Some Catskillians recently had the opportunity to experience Amy’s heart-centered work at September’s First Fridays Catskill. Warm thanks to those who stopped over for a mini energy work session or just to say hi and chat with us! Amy is available for sessions at Rivertide on Fridays through the end of September, and Mondays starting in October. Book a session with Amy here, or scroll down below this interview for links to events where you can find her.
Ari: Hi Amy, we are so excited to have you join our Wellness Practitioner Residency at Rivertide! Can you tell us a bit about how the practices you offer can increase a sense of well-being, and what drew you to these practices?
Amy Rose: Thanks, I’m so happy to be a part of the Rivertide community! A very early interest in spirituality, along with an autoimmune disease diagnosis in the 1990s, began my journey into alternative healing modalities. I accepted that Western medicine was necessary for me to survive, yet additionally, I just had a feeling there was more to thriving in life.
The energy work that I do is modeled on my training in the modality of Healing Touch. However, I put a spin on it by combining aspects of my personal art practice, spirituality, and past career in the social work field.
Ari: Who can benefit from Energy Work or Life Coaching, and what kind of experience do they need?
Amy Rose: I work with adults and believe that anyone can benefit from energy work. No experience necessary! You do not even need to BELIEVE in anything or think that it will work to reap the benefits. Benefits include: increased relaxation, reduced stress, improved sleep, a sense of calm, and overall well-being. It also complements talk therapy very well. To newbies, I often explain my energy work as me meditating for you.
Ari: How would someone prepare for a session with you, and what can they expect?
Amy Rose: Every session looks a little different. All clients should feel free to wear comfy clothes, no shoes during sessions (so maybe some warm socks), and be prepared to relax on a massage table.
Clients should expect to experience a deep sense of relaxation, even sleepiness (I like to call this yoga stoned!), and the possibility of strong emotions may arise.
Ari: What are some of the positive responses you notice from people who come to you for support with their well-being?
Amy Rose: A common positive response is mental clarity among my clients. Most feel relaxed, some get emotional, but almost all find clarity in either what brought them in or in an aspect of life they were not expecting.
Ari: And are there any contraindications or cautions that people should be aware of?
Amy Rose: I always encourage my clients to drink extra water, as toxins can often be released, much like in a physical massage.
Ari: What led you to the insight that the particular support you offer people would be a good fit with Rivertide’s mission of cultivating holistic self-care within a framework of community care?
Amy Rose: I met Ari and Patrick before I knew of Rivertide Center, and I was immediately drawn to their spirits! Within a few short yet deep conversations, I felt aligned with them as humans, and then I was so excited to learn what they did for work.
I currently have a practice in Troy, New York, but I instantaneously knew I wanted to build another healing arts community in Catskill with Rivertide!
Ari: Aside from these beautiful practices, how do you cultivate joy and nourishment in your own life?
Amy Rose: Most often, I am out in the woods with my two Australian cattle dogs, Waylon and June! We trail run, swim, and cross-country ski together regularly. I also mountain & road bike, make art, and write poetry. Working for myself for the past 13 years has given me the opportunity to create my dream life!
Ari: Thank you so much for taking this time with me, Amy, and for collaborating with us to grow the ways that Rivertide can serve to empower and nourish our community.
